Location, Location, Location

Funny how things turn out…

During our marriage, Willie and I owned a few homes. Most of the time we rented our dwelling, but for a while we owned.  The first and most important advice we always heard was, location-location-location.

It is important where one opens a business, where one sends the kids to schools, the vicinity of stores and parks and beaches and mountains…where one lives. We had some great homes near beaches and some near schools, and some near the library and others near parks…. But this place we live in Nahariya has the most unexpected location of all - we live in the slum neighborhood of Nahariya.

We were warned before we bought it by a policeman and a taxi-driver and even the relator who sold it to us. "Watch out for the neighbours! Drug dealers and high crime rate and just not up to your standard of culture"; In other words - a lousy location.

In our long apartment building there are 4 entries. I had a dream about a place like that long before we looked to buy anything.  Each entry has 8 flats.  On the ground floor there is a grocery store that carries all one needs in emergency.  Around the corner there is a pizza place. Down the hill, 10 minutes shuffled walk, is the main library. We are located on a hill and the wind is going through our place cooling it off in the summer, a delight.

Westward, we are about 30-45 minutes walk from downtown, the beach, the movie theater, our volunteers' office, the banks, the doctors' office, and the restaurants. Eastwards, the same walking distance is the hospital. We walked it today to visit one 89 years old whom we visit weekly and was admitted there.  We are right in the middle of everything. A car was burned downstairs last year; we did not even smell the fire and only saw the results the next morning. Homemade bomb was defused while we took pictures from our window and the heroin addict waves to us with a smile as we pass by. No danger, no problems.

They cleared a huge area of brush and old trees across the street and now we can see Rosh Ha-Nikra and Lebanon as clear as day. They are planning to build there a new housing area which will raise the value of our apartment.

49th Day of Thanks -
Light shines in darkness. We feel safe and comfortable in our location. We must be just where we are supposed to be. Location, location, location… we got it right this time. Thank you God

Happy to live close to everything…
