Most years we invited
single people or couples without kids to our home during these holiday times. We
collected toys and food donations and made up big parcels to take to the less fortunate
neighbours who needed a bit more for their families.
Holidays alone,
especially for those who struggle, are hard.
During Passover
similar pains are shown on people faces; but the goodness of the hearts around
us is just as strong. People collect donations of all kinds of things to give
to the needy. The kindness surprises me
each year.
This morning,
by 7 am, a friend drove up to our home to pick me up and take me shopping for
the holiday. She knew that without a car it would be harder to get to the big
stores where the holiday specials are, so she came for my rescue.
At least three
friends made sure that we have a place at someone's table for the Seder, the
first night of Passover, knowing that our children are far from us. We were
invited to a few homes and today we were also invited for a meal on the last
day of the holiday week.
Friends who
know that we have no vehicle and the public transportation is not working on
Passover, made arrangements to pick us up and drive us back from events so we
will not have to rent a car nor order a taxi during that time.
We are on the receiving
side of kindness this year, and we appreciate each act of love that comes our
way.
96th Thankful
Day -
I thank you God
for depositing your love and mercy into people hearts so they have enough to
share it with Willie and me.
On the receiving
end,
Orith
