תשע"ה in the Land of Milk and Honey

Red Pepper Seeds
We are celebrating a new year full of surprises in this promise land; a land of milk and honey, a land where no matter what happened, hope reigns.

The local atmosphere today is peaceful; people smiling and wishing everyone Chag Sameach (happy holiday); stores close early; houses being cleaned and the smell of the various exotic foods is whiffing through my open window.

Since we count the days from sundown to sundown, we will be having three successive Shabbats.  The shofar will sound tonight and people will go to synagogues to hear the Shofar calls as part of Yum Truah.  The Holy Days continue until Friday and connect to the weekly Shabbat.

There will be no public transportation - but the roads will be full of cars; most restaurants will be closed - but people will be eating to overfull, and total rest is expected - but everyone will be very tired at the end of it.

It is time for a new beginning and it seems that around here one can stick a branch in the earth and grow a tree.  So I added a few red pepper seeds to some cotton balls and saturated them with water.  Hope grows - and the seeds are my New Year Project.

267th Day of Praise -
I thank God for a growing year to all of us; a growth of health and happiness; of hope, peace and the love of God.

Hoping,

Orith
