We took a beach break yesterday.
Willie picked me up at the downtown office a bit earlier than I usually leave and walked with me to the beach.
We set on a bench in the sun and enjoyed the warmth and sea wind and the sight of the surfers. The waves were rather harsh and since the bay is shallow they fell on rocks. But these young ones were determined to learn to surf and kept going.
I took some pictures and we went to lunch in one of the few restaurants that chose to open. If there is some form of safe space around, they can choose to open for business during the war. I asked where the safe area was, and they pointed me to the large parking lot nearby. We saw three structures that the city hall built. An artist was painting the outside walls to make them less dreary looking.
I
also asked the young servers why they were not in the army. The war
caught them before they did their boot camp. They arrived as new
Olim, less than 6 months ago from a Russian-speaking country, and
they cannot serve yet. One volunteered but the army rejected him. So
they served us as waiters and did a great job.Colouring outside wall
At
home, I read a request from a friend for coats of all sizes, as long
as they are in a good enough condition to wear. We understood that we
could bring them to the BBB restaurant which collects items to
distribute to the needy. People lost their homes in the various
settlements in the south. Many are displaced and evacuated from the North
and South of Israel. Winter is arriving. Rain fell on Carmel Mountain
and in Tel Aviv, and the few drops in Nahariya will be turned into
floods soon enough. People ran without extra clothing or other needed
items. These coats, jackets and sweaters will serve them until they
get newer and warmer clothing."Migunit"
So we checked our cupboards and dug out clothing from whatever era we've got and bagged them. Tomorrow we'll deliver them to BBB and pray that they will be of use.
We have so many needs! Civilians as well as soldiers need supplies. I Thank God we can contribute.
