Cleaning the Silver

While Cleaning
It's catchy - all that cleaning! Everyone is at it and everyone checks with everyone else, "so are you ready for the holiday? Did you complete the cleaning? Did you buy food and presents and everything you need?"  Oy!

Since our home is spotless right now after the big cleaning day, and we are cooking for two instead of an army, I decided to take the time to clean the silver.  I am sitting with these few pieces that I decided to clean and I think how blessed and rich I am. Beside me sits a man I love who polishes what I clean; each piece tells me a story of its own, and my memories bring a smile to my face.

What had most impact on me since we arrived here are the holocaust survivors and the ancient ones in old age homes. Both groups are left with nothing. They packed enormous amounts of food on their plates when they are in public gathering and as I look at them I know that they cannot possibly eat it all, but they need to partake in the plenty. Their rooms in the homes might have a picture on the wall and a bed to sleep in but whatever they owned in their lives is not there to be used. If anything left when arrived here, now there is simply not enough room in the shared accommodation they live in. For most of them, there is no family left and only volunteers like us visit them weekly.

And here I am, polishing silver and brass.

After
103rd Day of Praise -
Thank you God for the blessings and riches you have given to me, how generous you are to me, my soul blesses the Lord - always.

Ironing next,

Orith
