Shavuot - Pentecost

Shavuot = the feast of weeks, since we counted 7 weeks from Pesach as we count the Omer.
Pentecost = Greek for 50, as we counted 50 days (7 weeks +1) from Passover.

In Shavuot, sages over time calculated, that the Torah was given to the new nation; the bible tells us to… observe the feast of weeks, of the first-fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end…  Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou begin to put the sickle to the corn.  And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the LORD thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the LORD thy God, according as the LORD thy God hath blessed thee.

In Pentecost, it is recorded that the Holy Spirit fell upon the gathering… And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

There is not a place in the bible where we suppose to eat milk produce, ware white or do anything but celebrate the harvest, bring first fruits, and thank God.  However, for many reasons, all seem to be cultural and traditional, we eat cheeses, drink milk and ware white clothing. It is rather pretty, tasty and like any other feast, unique.

It started at sundown tonight and will continue till sundown tomorrow. Whatever is your tradition - Happy Holidays.

154th Day of Praise -
Thank you God for giving us the Law and united us as a nation.  Thank you God for pouring your Holy Spirit on us in groups and it was no longer just for individuals or in the Temple.  Thank You God for your love.

I love holidays, Cheese Cake here we come

So many of us in American don't really have any traditions around Pentecost. Don't know why.

However, I think it would be good go have some. And since I absolutely LOVE cheesecake, seems like we could start making that a Pentecost Tradition!
