Run to Life |
National Geographic documented the plight
of the sea turtles numerous times, and I watched it many times on TV. It always made me hope that one day, when I am
rich and famous, I will be able to chart a voyage to that far away island on
some coast and follow the females as they lay their eggs, or at least see the
hatching of the little ones and their dash from sand to sea. It never occurred to
me that God will answer this complicated wish in such a simple way.
The sand where the turtles drop their eggs
is….between Acco and Rosh HaNikra. That's
on my beach!
I signed up months ago to see the turtles.
We were number 595 and I thought it will
be next year before we get a chance to go; but, this morning an SMS on my phone
notified us that our turn came up.
The sun was going down when we arrived at
the beach. In a sheltered area, behind
gate and a fence stood funny structures like miniature teepees, underneath them
were the nests.
After a long explanation answering all the
possible questions of the children, one of the ranger went inside the fence and
started to remove one such protective 'teepee', exposing the nest. It was number 18 out of 27 nests they found
this season. 40 little turtles came out
of this one nest reaching the sea, 20 more came out running tonight. Quickly they climbed out of the sand hole,
pushing their ways in clusters toward the air above, the rangers gave the weak
and slow among them a chance to reach the sea, and they protected them all the
way of the run till they reached the water.
What a sight!
239th Day of
Praise -
I thank You God
for Your wonderful creativity in your creation. It is such a joy to see the birth of this miniature
creature and such a great pleasure in participating in its protected run toward
its destination in the great sea.
Heart full of wonder,
Orith
