I had an unusual experience this month. I read a book in English and found myself
quickly putting it down, it was rather boring.
But this week I read the same book in its translation to Hebrew and
could not leave it alone, it was fascinating…. go figure.
In the weekend part of the daily newspaper, something
similar to "weekend magazine" in North American newspapers, there are
write ups about all kinds of subjects.
This week, being the holiday week, a few of them are dealing with booths
and children and other holiday subjects.
The write ups are light, easy reads and laces with funny stories and
jokes.
As I tried to translate one or two of these jokes, the
funny parts were translated right out of them; something to do with the
linguistic sense of humor I gather. Must
be a reverse to that book I read earlier on...
go figure.
284th Day of Praise -
I thank you God for writers and books in every
language. I thank you God for a sense of
humor, though so specifically belong to its culture, it still makes us laugh. I thank you God for a Shabbat in which one can
rest and read.
