Friday - Day 28 of the war. 03.11.2023
Luke 24:45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures
Understanding is in short supply at the moment. People are confused. Different opinions are shooting from the hips in different directions. What one means to say is misunderstood by others. Yes, we need God to open our minds to understand everything around us, as well as the scriptures.

Full Wharf |
We went to the boardwalk this morning.
Even
though it was Friday, we did not need to buy a thing, we had all the
supplies we needed. After a discussion with a friend and checking
first aid kits, we decided that fresh air and some walking would do
us good. It did. A beautiful day with fishermen on the wharf and
swimmers in the water. Peaceful Nahariya. Hard to believe we are in
the middle of a war.Barbed Wire
The beach area is fortified. Ready with barbed wire, warships, and sacks full of sand, all ready for an attack from the water. Nahariya knows how to handle unwanted ships, we learned from the British when the boats came from Europe full of Holocaust survivors and turned away, again and again. We are ready.
Willie went to his haircut appointment while I meandered between the stores finding inexpensive junk food. There is a deep drawer in my kitchen designated now for junk food. The war changed our habits. No matter how many times I give myself the “health talk” and even write it on the blog for the whole world to see, my junk drawer is filled up without shame.
We
did the wash today, cleaned the sink, and even showered, but most of
the day we talked to some Israelis, prayed with others and kept in
touch with family and friends overseas. By the early afternoon, we
bussed it back downtown and went to one of the three restaurants
still open. The one we walked to was half full of donations to the
IDF. Water bottles, three levels of boxes full of underclothes,
socks, home-knitted hats and scarfs, towels (it rained for two hours
somewhere in the North), rain gear, shampoo... IDF is the
best-smelling army on the planet.1/2 of 1/2 of Resturant
Half the restaurant's space!
While we set in the other half rather mesmerized, I heard the owner tell a volunteer that he had 700 hot meals ready to be delivered to the bases – all free of charge! The closer bases can come and pick these out, and to the further away bases they will be delivered. I asked if that is happening daily, 700 meals? Yes, more or less around that number.

The other 1/2 of the 1/2 |
More than 50% of Israeli civilians volunteered since October 7. +50%!!!!
Donations keep pouring in and people are finding out where there are such “stations” that take contributions. Non-stop. Close contacts. What a nation this is; a united and generous nation of God.
The last bus was at 15:30 and we missed it. We walked home - these 9635 steps were an exercise in centring our emotions.
Open our understanding God, our hearts seem to be open already.
