SATURDAY. SWORDS OF IRON WAR. Day 64

09.12.2023

THE THIRD LIGHT OF CHANUKAH

Shabbat.

Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.” (Joshua 3:4)

This verse has been in my mind since I woke up today. Every move I made today felt like I need to pay attention to what was happening because we've never passed that way before.

It was a day of firsts.

The Khila bus drove us from Nahariya to Isfiya to the Khila. We have gone with the bus many times before today; yet, it felt new. On the way, we received a note that friends from a city further south of us would be visiting tonight. We stopped on the main road just before the Khila and bought some Pitas with toppings to take with us for a light supper after we lit the candles.

In the service, the children went up to the platforms and some adults joined them, I went up as well. We sang Chanuka songs in Hebrew and that was a first for me for many years. What fun to be a child for two songs.

During the service, we heard recent stories from our evangelical team about God's miracles in their work. The first time that I heard these accounts. When we boarded the bus, the driver talked to us about his thoughts regarding faith, I realized that I didn't have answers to his questions, it left me quiet. A first for me.

Later our friends arrived with much food that made our light supper into a feast. We had a great evening lighting the 3rd candle and starting the 3rdday of Chanukah together. This too was a first. We did not celebrate Chanukah with this couple before.

It was a good day. As I reflect on the Shabbat, I noticed that since the war began, except for the few days of recess, this is the first day I did not hear the bomb exchange at the border. Another welcomed first.

It was good to be notified prior to the events that we have not passed this way before. Thank you God.
