FRIDAY 23.2.2024
It is hard to believe – 140 days!
One wonders how many of the hostages are still alive? Of these who are alive, how many survived the ordeal as a whole person? The entire country is in trauma, but to what degree of trauma? And if the entire country is in trauma, who can provide the help needed to overcome the trauma?
Friends came to visit us this morning. Their son is on leave after 4 months in Gaza. He returned to his wife and children unharmed in body, but they haven't had time to talk to him privately and to find out how he is holding emotionally. It is a similar story with everyone who returned home from the front, knowing that he/she might be called out again any day. These are the soldiers, what about the hostages?
Our nation is full of trauma victims; Israel was built by refugees of pogroms and the holocaust and their children and grandchildren had to fight wars since they were born. Traumas became a part of daily life. This terror attack seemed to destroy any hope for peace with the nations around us. It is tough to keep understanding while the neighbours insist on killing you.
I don't know when it will end, but the nation will never be the same again, as it was before October 7, 2023.
Shabbat tomorrow. A day of gathering in Sinagougs and congregations for prayers and worshiping the God of Abraham Issac and Jacob. May God of our fathers, the creator of all, our Messiah, hear our prayers and give our leaders wisdom and direction for our country and our people.
