Our sons called last night as they do every Sunday. I thank God for them both, and for their wives and children. It is an honor and a gift to hear their voices and find out how their lives are going. I love them so much...
A friend posted the following on Facebook. I copied a part of it. I thought it was a good write-up.
When parents get old ...
Let them grow old with the same love that they let you grow ... let them speak and tell repeated stories with the same patience and interest that they heard yours as a child ... let them enjoy their friends just as they let you … let them enjoy the talks with their grandchildren, because they see you in them ... let them enjoy living among the objects that have accompanied them for a long time, because they suffer when they feel that you tear pieces of this life away ...Let them live and try to make them happy on the last stretch of the path they have left to go; give them your hand, just like they gave you their hand when you started your path!
“Honor your mother and father and your days shall be long upon the earth”. - God
My friend and neighbour upstairs is living the best example of honoring a parent I've ever seen. Although she is 86 years old widow, her two sons are in daily contact with her. They taught their children and grandchildren to do the same. The family is too large to gather at her apartment, so they meet in other venues but always make sure that she is given the choice to take part. The family created a WhatsApp group where everyone is included even those who are in other cities or other countries. Each of them posts pictures and videos daily in the group. I enjoy seeing her large albums on her phone, how delightful to use technology to include the oldest person in their lives. I salute her for bringing up the children so well.
Our soldiers continue to operate in Shifa Hospital in Gaza. They too were taught to respect and honor the Elders. While the terrorists are hiding physically behind the patients and using them as human shields, “IDF operates with precision and consideration for the sick, wounded, and the medical staff, delivering medical supplies, equipment, food water, and restoring electricity to the hospital after Hamas's attacks”. (IDF spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari). Honoring your parents includes honoring others.
IDF honoring civilians of all ages does cost IDF lives. But their morality stays intact, and their teaching continues to express the true soul of our nation. It is the moral code of God himself that is being taught and practiced daily. This is the true essence of Israel and the example which spreads from Zion to the world.
Now
it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the
Lord’s house
Shall be established on the top of the
mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And peoples
shall flow to it.
Many nations shall come and say,
“Come, and
let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God
of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His
paths.”
For out of Zion the law shall go forth,
And the word
of the Lord from Jerusalem. (Micah 4:1-2)
